Historic Design Hotel

A former naval fortress along the Bay of Palma de Mallorca, Cap Rocat looks like something out of a 7-year-old's dream with real castle walls and grand drawbridge (now a permanent walkway) leading to the hotel's tower entrance.  But luxury to every end, Cap Rocat is situated on 88-acres and almost 2-miles of waterfront once used as a Spanish naval outpost and now home to one of the Mediterranean's most spectacular new hotels. Inside, interior designer Antonio Obrador outdoes his previous work at Mallorca's La Residencia and the Majestic Hotel Barcelona with a series of effortlessly opulent spaces that capitalize on endless bay views and history that dates back to the 19th Century.

Two restaurants include Fortress Restaurant with gourmet cuisine from locally-sourced ingredients and sometimes-homegrown produce. Closer to the water is the Sea Club with its alfresco eatery and beach club styling as well as the Moroccan Lounge inspired by the outdoor lounges of Marrakech with colorful tented canopy and oversize candle lanterns. Days are spent poolside or along the private beach accessed through a short walk along the perimeter of the property where a historic pier offers water activates and unique Mediterranean vantage point already enjoyed by Catherine Zeta-Jones and the Spanish Royal Family.

The Room

Much of the building's military history and relics have been incorporated into its design from old canon turrets to outlying gun pads that now double as the hotel’s high-end suites with lavish covered cabanas and private terraces. Rooms feature elements of Moroccan design from rugs to patterned curtains on four-poster beds and window drapery. Large, airy bathrooms feature deep soaking tubs with wall-mounted marble sinks and rain showers concealed behind simple architectural panels of glass. Top of the line El Cabo and La Muralla Suites come with rooftop lounge area for nighttime stargazing as well as private pool that’s bigger than your average plunge.
